Pitch - Synergy (Anisha)




The artist will have red highlights in her hair. This will be seen throughout the music video and on the album cover. The colour red will be our key visual element that you will see consistently through the promotional video and the ancillary texts. For example, we will have red smoke bombs used in the music video.

The main colour used in the digipak is red. The artist name will be in red and there will be a red smoke cloud in the background which links the promotional video and the digipak together as there will be red smoke used in the video. The artist will wear very muted colours to make her name standout in the cover.

For our music video we will not be using a green screen. However, we will be using the white background in the class room to take pictures for our ancillary texts and to shoot some of our base tracks for our music video.

Blog Task 27 - Where We Got Our Final Ideas

 This is our song choice. I Loved You Blonde Ft Melissa Steel.
The idea of our music video being mainly narrative came from the official music video. The ideas of two girls enjoying life was what led us to doing exactly that- two girls with such an amazing friendship.

The idea of there just being a plain background throughout the video will be used in our music video. As it's unusual and not many music videos are like this at all. This will preferably be during the lip syncing in room 333. Also the affects such as the flashing lights and different colours would be good in our music video too.
Our synergy colour is red. Our inspiration was Rhianna. Also red is a colour which symbolises love. Love is presented within our music video - a friendship between two girls. Red will be used throughout our music video.

Blog Task 19 - Examine the website

Melissa Steels Tumblr is very nice and simple. I couldnt find a official website in which is dedicated to her. But the print screen of her Tumblr above includes many things in which she likes. Such as fashion , animals and travelling. Her website interlinks well with our target audience: young adults as fashion , animals and travelling is very important to the younger population in comparison to the older population. I like the ideas of the plain colour - white. It keeps it very simple but stands out. The font is also straight to the point and not confusing. Therefore it'll keep people interested when looking at the website.

Many ideas can be taken from Melissa steels website and can be used for our own. Such as it mainly including photos. Our target audience tend to be more visual. Me as an teenager prefers looking at pictures on a website other than reading big chunky bits of writing.

Blog Task 18 - Digipak/CD

Below are two rough ideas of what our CD cover would look liked. The picture was taken in a gallery. The whole idea of the colours e.g white mise en scene looks really effective in a way that it slightly blends with the affect but stands out. The font is red because our ancillary theme colour is red, which will be used throughout the whole music video whether its the colour of our clothes , smoke , lighting or hair.

Our Artist "Renee" will be signed to Atlantic Records. Atlantic records is a major American Record Label. Our decision for this was due to the actual artist who sang " I Loved You" being signed by them too. 
Atlantic records are very well known they've worked with so many successful artists such as: Aretha Franklin , Ray Charles , Wilson Pickett and many more. 
Our song will be available for internet download and also rough copy too. Being available on for download is very important as our target audience is 16-22 years of age (young adults). And young adults tend to use the internet on a daily basis. 


Pitch - Post Production (Tia)

We will roughly have 20 base tracks which is important so that we can decide which ones will be used when in the process of editing. Some examples of the base tracks in which we will have are: base track of the view in Alexandra Palace as the view is absolutely amazing to incorporate in a music video. ( During the night/ day time and early mornings).

Another example of the base track in which we will be recording is: Tia and Jessica running around having fun and also being silly...letting of smoke bombs and doing things in which young teenagers tend to do nowadays!

In Shore ditch there's loads of nice graffiti looking walls so a base track of both Jessica and Tia having fun and being adventurous would be extremely effective and entertaining.

In Room 333 we will also have another base track of Both Tia and Jessica playing about with glow sticks  and just simply having fun and laughing.

Slow motion will be used during different parts of the music video. Mainly whilst we are recording in the Emrites and running around.

Base tracks are very important when recording a music video. We will also be recording base tracks from different angles when the lip syncing is being recorded so that when editing we have a wide range of different shots that we can change from.

- In order to minimise any dangers we checked the weather conditions so that our filming will go      
perfectly well
- Walking around with a spare battery is also very important just incase a battery may die
- Making sure where we are filming isn't too busy
- Make sure we carry an umbrella if it is going to rain
- Make sure we a safe while using the sparklers and smoke bombs
- Equipment must always be in sight of the group

This is a draft digipak Renee is the name of our artist and 'I loved you' is our song choice. The main colour will be red as it is also our synergy colour. A picture of both Renee and her friend at the centre with a smokey red background would go with the whole theme. The girl should be wearing white so the smokey red would stand out.

Task 25. Overview of target audience

Task 24. Initial design of digipak and advertisement


Here I have designed a draft digipak using different effects and fonts and colours. I tried to create a logo for the artist, and experiment with the different types of fonts we could use to make out products unique. I finally decided to have a line through the font to make it stand out from other artists. This idea might be very ideal for our final ancillary work. Furthermore, I stuck to the theme of red, as this will be our synergy work.

Task 18. Analysis of digipak/ CD



This is a CD cover of the single I Loved You by Blonde and Melissa Steel. This is the particular song that we decided to make our music video to. From the artwork of the song we can identify many aspects that relate back to the original music video and brand of the artists, for example the main focus of the picture (lobster) is bright in colour which makes it stand out against the background which is striped muted tones. This could signify how the artists brand themselves, where their work and performances are very noticeable and different. Most especially because of the genre of the song, it does allow them to express their ideas more and stand out from the norm. The duo blonde have a logo which is found across all of their media platforms and even found on this Single cover, this helps their audiences identify their work alot easier and it shows that the duo are always consitent.

My reflection:
Mark 10/20.
I believe that this year it has taken me a bit longer to get into the flow of blogging, however i have Started to incorporate different uses of technology to present my blogs. At the moment, my analysis of my tasks is at an ok level, in the future I will edit my posts and extend the level of analysis i do, also focusing closely on using media terminology. Therefore, i will rate my blogs 10/20. By the 20th task i'm aiming to mark myself 17/20 by improving on the level of analysis and not consistently using the same technology.

Hi Jess, a good start to your blogging. I particularly enjoyed your storyboard from Summer. Really nicely laid out might be one to use for your pitch. You could try and expand your written comments i.e. for your review of Group 4s video from last year, I think you could expand on your comments a fair bit as there's so much to say! Hope this helps.

Production - Filming Session 2


Filming Session 27/10/15

On our second day of filming we went to an exhibition where we took some potential pictures for our ancillary work. We also recorded some footage which we could potentially use in the music video. We then went to Greenwich where we took some footage inside the Emirates cable cars and near the river. 
When we where waiting to enter the exhibition it took longer than expected, this then delayed us. Also, within the exhibition as it was a smoke and light exhibition, there were a number of health and safety issues involved as it was difficult to see more than a arms length way. When we where inside it took us a while to get the hang of being inside as we all kept losing each other due to us disappearing in the smoke. It took us quite a bit of time to find the exit which delayed us even further.

The journey from the exhibition to Greenwich took us nearly an hour. When we arrived in Greenwich it started getting darker due to the time change in the UK. This meant that some of the planing that we did that was initial meant to be during the day was now night time shots, this leading to us changing the structure of our storyboard. We initial wanted to start our music video with a pan of the view from the cable cars but this ended up being in the dark.

When we were filming our base tracks near the river it was during the evening therefore it was dark. This meant that we had to use the lighting. Again we weren't to happy with the footage when we went to review it as the lighting looked harsh and it was a bit shaking as it was hand held.

Also, our SD card was corrupted therefore it kept interrupting us while we were recording and our base tracks were not complete from start to finish.

Production - Filming Session 1



Filming Session 26/10/15

During our first filming session we filmed in Shoreditch. We ended up starting late as one of our group members had a job interview. We first took some shots in a park of Jessica and Tia playing with the different rides. Followed by us taking shots of Jessica against a graffiti wall. As the clocks went back an hour earlier this week it meant that our filming sessions run into the evening hen it was dark. We had lighting with us which meant that we could record some footage. However, when we were reviewing the footage we saw that the lighting that was used on Jessica had a harsh edge to it and looked more like a spotlight, which we didn't like. Also, as the lighting was hand held and not placed on a stand it was a bit shaking and it was very evident when we went to review the footage. 

The footage that we recorded in the park we felt we good and had potential to be used in the music video. We liked how we did some shots of the different perceptive views of Jessica and Tia. We felt that these shots put together showed the element of fun in their friendship, which our video tries to put forward. 

Problems:
Tia who was initially meant to be our artist had a sore throat and was unable to sing therefore Jessica replaced her. This did cause a few disagreements within the group which lead to time being wasted but we were fast to find a solution.
The lighting used was poor when we went to review the footage as it looked very harsh.
Our SD card was corrupted and kept interrupting every time we were recording, therefore our base tracks recorded were incomplete.

Reflection on Progress

I feel that compared to last year my blogging has improved much more as i tend to blog more regularly and try to incorporate different use of technology. 
Out of 20 i will give myself a mark of 12 as i think that certain blogs of mine have to be in much more detail. I feel that i am incorporating different use of technology but i will need to use much more in order for my mark to increase. 
One thing that i need to improve is re-visit some of my previous blogs and had more detail, especially blog task 7 & 8. Also, i may need to use different types of technology in future blogs and try not to repeat the same technology over and over again.

14- Reflection on progress






The mark i will give myself for use of ICT is 10 out of 20 as i only used websites such as emaze, prezi, weebly.
 For the level of detail i my blogs i will give myself 15 out of 20
The three things i need improve is meeting deadlines, going into more detail in my blogs and also going through my work and adding more throughout.

Targets for improvement:
Go over all your posts and reflect on how much detail there is - if it's similar to what you did last year then it's not detailed enough.  For example, posts 9 and 10 - are just photos of a worksheet.  There's no explanation as to why you've posted this at all.
Complete all the missing blogs - 2, 13 and 14 are missing.
Complete a full audit of the blog - make sure that every post includes something visual/ICT related and that there aren't any spelling errors.
You should be spending no less than 4 hours a week on this - at the moment I'm not sure that you are! Come on - you can do better than this.

Blog Task 17 - Analysis Of Original Video


The Song which we will be doing is I Loved You By Blonde ft Melissa Steel. The music video is more of a casual music video. The locations are casual for example playing pool or running up and down streets. The mise en scene is very casual too, they're seen wearing shorts within the music video. Whereas with our music video we are planning to make it more dressy and outgoing to change the whole theme completely. Also our music video will have lip syncing and loads of close ups as that makes music videos more affective. Whereas with the original I Loved You music video it was more of a story that was being told due to there being no lip syncing and interactions with the viewers.

Some ideas will be taken from the music video. Such as enjoying life having fun etc. Some shots/edits in which were taken were also very effective and creative (0:40 - 0:42). The music video overall was really enjoyable to watch and gave us loads of inspiration. Even though the video doesn't interlink with the lyrics its still very entertaining to watch.

The fact that the two girls styles are very similar majority of the time - both wearing shorts or both wearing a leather jacket. We won't be following that concept as we want to show the different characteristics both of the performers in our music video will have. It's important for young adults/ students of different styles to be able to relate with the music video. We want the two young ladies to have a different personality and different style to one and other. We as a group find it important for the music video to focus more on the personalities and friendships of the two young ladies. ( Tia & Jessica)

Blog Task 14 - Reflection On Progress

In comparison to last year I'm keeping on top of my blogging. Whereas last year I'd leave blogs till last minute which isn't a wise thing for me to do. Also I feel that I'm being more creative with my blogs - using a variety of different apps and ways of presenting my ideas in my blogs. I would give myself roughly a 12 out of 20 this is due to my blogs not being as detailed as they could be and I could of used a bit more different ICT techniques.

Things in which I could improve are:

  • With Blog 7 I need to show that I understand the importance of audience research research 
  • Post 9 needs more detail as it lacks detail when talking about costume , setting and location in music videos.
  • Blog 4, 5 ,6 I need to add more description when talking about music videos

Blog Task 11- Difference between Mainstream and Independent

Mainstream Artist/ Group- One Direction

Advantages and Disadvantages?

Advantages of being a part of a mainstream label are that

  • It allows instant publicity e.g Radio play, Video Airtime etc
  • Signing Bonus
  • Distributes to a larger audience leading to artists being known world wide
  • Have financial support
  • Can collaborate with popular artists
Disadvantages of being a part of a mainstream label are that
  • Each individual gets a smaller percentage of money
  • No artist freedom
  • Major label politics which could amount to never ending pushbacks
  • Labels can be exploiting the artist

Advantages and Disadvantages?

Advantages of being a part of a Independent label are that
  • you can have your own independence when it come to your songs/ music
  • freedom to do exactly what you want
  • have control over decision making
Disadvantages of being a part of a Independent label are that
  • Your'e not known globally 
  • you have no financial help
  • you're completely independent so you have to do everything yourself
  • less profit due to it being a smaller scale
How many different ways can fans of bands find out information about them?

There are many different ways in which information in relation to your favourite bands can be found. Mainly through the use of social media e.g. Facebook, twitter , Instagram etc. Another popular website which contains important information on artists/bands is Wikipedia it includes everything... ranging from previous experiences in which the artists have experienced, their age , and many more.

Would you rather be signed to a mainstream or Independent?

In my opinion I'd rather be signed to a mainstream because there's a lot of support financially which is important as a artist so you can promote , create music videos , go on tours. Whereas starting off as an Independent artists can be tricky unless you have some form of connections which will help you become noticed a lot more. With reference to my research I'd rather be mainstream and then gradually become independent.
