From the feedback that we received from our class, the strengths were that the framing of our shots were good and some of the shots that we took were good. This includes the shot were the artist is walking towards the camera and the camera is moving backwards.
A weakness is that some shots went on for too long as they went cut to the beat. Also, a filter is needed over some of the shots as they look a bit dull and needed to be brightened up.
For todays lesson we aimed to finish putting all our footage in order for our music video. We also want to start adding special effects as we like the idea of our music video featuring a range of different neon colours.
The changes we have made are replacing the clip at the start when the singing starts to the clip where the artist was walking towards the camera and the camera moving backwards.
Altogether we hope to finish editing the whole music video successfully by thursdays lesson.
On our Thursday lesson our teacher looked at our video. Some of the feedback that we got was that the time lapse that we started off with didn't make sense and seemed to be out of place. Also, he felt that we needed to start with a different clip when the singing started, as the movement of the camera in the clip didn't match up to the beat of the song. Since we used two different camera's to film our footage we have to put a filter over the video so that you can't tell the difference between the footage used. Also, the framing per second on the footage from the two different camera's was different. Therefore we had to slow both of them down to 23.5.
Taking on board the feedback we made some adjustments to our video. This includes changing the clip that we started with when the singing part of the music came. We replaced it with a clip where the artist was walking towards the camera and the camera was moving backwards. We felt like this clip was suitable to be placed at this particular point in the music video as the movement of the camera matches the beat of the music. Also, further improvements that we need to make is that we still need to put a filter on so that the footage from the different camera's match up and to deepen the colours within the video so that they look much richer because at the moment the colours look a bit flat and dull. We will place the filter later during the week once we have completed most of our editing and have place the majority of our clips in the right sequence.
Our main overall feedback that we were given was that the brightness and contrast of our video needs to be adjusted as it looks a bit flat. We need to deepen the colours in the video so that the colours look deeper. Some of the improvements that need to be considered is that the scenes of Tia dancing need to be edited and placed within the video. We decided that the edited dancing scenes will be placed within the video when the beat starts to pick up. Also, we decided that we will place a filter over the footage to give a more pastel effect.
On the 15th of November we went to film in Alexandra park. We filmed some shots of Jessica signing and a few scenes of both Jessica and Tia 'messing about' and 'having fun'.
We filmed again in room 333 to re-shoot some of our base tracks as we felt the previous time we filmed, the red lighting was a little to harsh. We also shot some scene where Tia was dancing against the green screen.
After our pitch we did a bit more research and found a new location where we could film. We found an exhibition at the welcome collection by Ann Veronica Jannsens called 'State of mind'. Its an exhibition of coloured mist which tied in very well with our synergy of different vibrant colours.
Our forth filming session took place in room 333 again. We had to re shoot as we did not like any of the footage from the last filming session. We done some base tracks and also got some footage of Renee and her friend dancing.
What went well?
During this filming session we used the green screen instead of the white screen. This is because we decided the lighting was to harsh in previous shots however we though it would be better if we created our own background using the green screen.
Our third filming session was took place in room 333, however these shots are not going to be used in our music video as we discussed we wanted to retake the base track with Renee standing up and moving around rather than sitting down.
These shots have help us test out our shots with the red colour, it also helped us get an idea of where we want to position the camera and the artist.
What went wrong?
- Renee was sitting throughout which meant there was not a lot of movement
- the red lighting was too bright
-we used the lyrics video instead of the original music video, so while we were editing the footage didn't match
Here are some pictures of our filming session:
For our next filming session we need to film a base track with the red lights and our artist standing up throughout.
Here are a couple videos of my group behind the scenes of filming. This was the first time we ever filmed in room 333. Ever since then we have had the hang of it. We know how to control the lights in order to avoid any shadows in the background such as the shadow of the camera. During this filming Session we filmed Jessica Lip Syncing and Me (Tia) dancing. After reviewing the footage from that filming session we had many things which needed improving. Jessica was too static so we decided to arrange another filming session in room 333 having her moving around a lot more. As it's important to have a exciting feel to the music video, as the song itself gives us that kind of vibe - exciting.
We went to wellcome collection in Euston Square for the Ann Veronica Janssens : Yellowbluepink installation to take pictures for our ancillary work and some shots for the actual music video. This was a successful filming session as we were able to take pictures and videos using all the colours in the room.
Here are some pictures:
What went well:
-Got some great shots for our ancillary work
-took some shots for the actual music video
-Different bright colours meaning we were able to take pictures and videos with all the colours
What went wrong?
-Long queue which meant it wasted time for us to get to our next destination
-Camera had to be really close to both girls, if it was not they would disappear
Our first filming session took place on a Monday at Shoreditch. We filming our base track behind the wall shown below and had our main artist in front singing.
We also decided to film the base track a few time with different angles.
Overall our filming session was partly successful. Looking back at the footage the lighting in a bit poor which means we might have to reshoot
Our core audience are students/young who enjoy the many attributes of the city. During their free time, they like to discover and explore many areas and go about their hobbies.
Andrew Goodwin's Theory
Our music video follows 'disjuncture' because it doesn't relate to the lyrics of the video however it does compliment the sound and genre of the music.
Our artist is called 'Renee' and her brand image mainly involves being casual and easily relatable the audience.
They are similar to;
The girl group 'M.O' they also are reliant on comfortable clothing, which gives their videos an urban feel.
We like the idea that although these girls are dressed casually they are still matching with the denim they are wearing. We are going to do this by making both Renee and her friend dress casually however, we would link them by making them wear the same colour. For example a red turtle neck for Renee and red jeans for her friend.
The artist will wear casual clothing, such as jeans and tracksuits which people wear on a every day basis. Her style is very comfortable.
We chose the song by Blonde & Melissa Steel - I Loved You
Our music video will differ to their in terms of:
Costume:
The original video: their costumes are considered to be informal, scanty and brief to exemplify their free spirited characters. Whereas our costumes will be sensible yet casual. We chose this because we want our audience to feel comfortable whilst watching the video and feel like they're on the same level as the artist.
Location:
Our location are well known areas, that immediately stand out to the audience. We want to film around London capturing well known areas, for example Greenwich/Emirates Cable Cars
Concept:
In their music video, it shows a story of two best friends who have fallen out over a career path that one has chosen to pursue. it is revealed that the two girls used to be best friends, terrorising and causing destruction wherever they went, including smashing cars, spraying cans of pink paint on a bus, robbing a diner, setting a pool hall on fire and flashing the city from a rooftop.Whereas, ours follows that two friends reunite and spend their time exploring the parts of London that everyone is very familiar.
We filmed some of our base tracks in room 333. We opted for red lighting so that we will be able to incorporate our synergy into our video. We started a bit late as our artist (Jessica) was late, this delayed us and put us behind. We decided that we would have Jessica sitting on a stool and singing and we would it it from different angles.
When we went to review our footage we felt that the red lighting was a little to harsh. Also when Jessica was singing along to the audio of our song we realised it was a different one to the one that we had downloaded for editing and the lip syncing didn't match up when we where editing. As Jessica was sitting down and singing, she looked to static and the beat of the song required much more movement from her and the camera.
After reviewing the footage we planned to re-shot the footage in our next media lesson and some improvements that we were to make are that Jessica is standing up and is moving more through gestures and dancing and having the camera move more and follow the artist.
To improve:
1. Improve the blogs that you were told to improve at HC1.
2. Post the remaining missing 12 blog posts - use your checklist to identify these.
3. Really think about increasing the level of detail in your posts - as stated at HC1 it isn't yet at A2 standard and we are disappointed to see that you don't appear to have made any effort to improve this since our first lot of feedback.
I have know improved my HC1 blogs, i have done this by adding the 3 blogs I missed out before. I also added more detailed to some of the blogs as it was said to be as level.
I still need to order and finish my blogs.
I need to keep up with deadlines in order to be on top on the blogs
- In deep house music it tends to be a heavy on narrative we will be following this idea however we will have the lip syncing during the chorus of the song
What the fans should expect to find in our video:
- Girls having fun on a journey
- Different locations being showed
- 4 max outfit changes
- Friendship

I made this to represent our ideas of using the colour 'red' in our music video. The picture on top left are blurred lights which we would incorporate in our video during the night, as coloured lights have a better effect during that time. The picture on the top right are sparklers which i have edited making it appear red. The colour change might also be featured in the music video. The bottom picture is the smoke bombs that we have decided to use as well. Throughout the video we will have many items that have a red hue to it, mainly because the theme of love comes across in the lyrics, which people experience in their daily lives; expanding on our idea of making our video relatable to our target audience.
This is our final choice we will be doing ' I Loved You' by Blonde feat. Melissa Steel. For our music video we would like to take the concept of friendship we also want to take the idea of both girls together on a journey which includes different locations and the girls both messing about. We will also be taking the idea of the red smoke bombs the girls used on the bus but will be using it in another locations. We will also be adding red fire works to go with the synergy and sparklers. We want to film both girls having fun going on a journey around London.
Initial our ideas that our synergy will be bright colours that we will see throughout the music video, Digipak and website. However, we decided that we will have bright colours throughout the three production products but we will mainly focus on the colour red. which will be main visual element alongside the bright colours.
Ways which we will incorporate the synergy is through:
The main colour in the digipak is pink; this demonstrates
the connotation of love. The design is quite minimalistic and simple and as its
specifically light pink it illustrates free spirit, which is seen through the
personalities of the girls in the music video. The contrast between the light
pink in the front of the cover and the dark pink used in the disc may symbolise
that the song has some elements of hurt in it. Overall the use of the colour
pink shows that it’s directly related to females.
